Everyone can play Magicka: Vietnam. Only the Host needs it

Just a heads up but everyone can access the new Magicka: Vietnam content. Only the host needs a copy of the expansion DLC. Everyone that connects to the host can play with the new material. I think I read this off the official twitter.

I haven’t tried it yet because I bought 2 copies of the game. One for my brother and I.

Hope you guys are having fun with the new content!

So how do you guys feel about the DLC? Do you like it?

Over at Green Man Gaming, they’re paying $0.25 in store credit for game reviews. Why not put up a quick review for Magicka: Vietnam. It’ll help you score cheap games and it’ll help anyone thinking about purchasing. Read more about that here.

Magicka: Vietnam has a release date! April 12, 2011.

The release date for Magicka: Vietnam has been announced. It’s going to come out on April 12, 2011 on all the digital game distribution sites. It’s only going to cost $4.99! Nice.

There’s going to be a napalm strike magicka spell lol. Looks like they’re adding in a new survival map. They really need to add in some modding support of some kind. Would keep the game fresh.

Also, eventually I’ll start working on the site again. Been busy playing other games and working on other projects. Feel free to submit any good Magicka Tips of your own and I’ll give you credit. Help’s everyone get better.

EDIT: Since some people asked another site I’ve been working on is this site for Digital Game Deals. Basically just hot deals on games at Steam, D2D, GamersGate, Impulse Driven, etc.

Paradox Announces Magicka: Vietnam at GDC 2011

Magicka: Vietnam

WTF is this I don’t even…

This is some crazy stuff lol. This is definitely a must buy for me. This looks like a hilarious parody of Bad Company 2: Vietnam :P.

GDC – SAN FRANCISCO – March 1, 2011—The wizards of Arrowhead Studios have whipped up something special for all the Magicka fans out there, today revealing the first expansion for the definitive “blow-up-your-friend” simulator that has taken the fantasy world by meteor storm. Magicka: Vietnam (yes, you read that right) will soon be available on all major digital distribution channels.
Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if wizards were allowed to roam the jungles of war-torn Vietnam, attempting to bring peace and stability to the region by casting spells on all opponents? Wait, you haven’t ever wondered that? Ever? Okay, so we’re probably the only ones who have but in our defense: here’s your chance to stop being so closed-minded. Magicka: Vietnam delivers over-the-top action as players take on the role of four meek and physically inept wizards as they try to do what so many 80’s action stars have done in the past: blow stuff up.

Magicka PvP tournaments!

There’s a steam community focused on Magicka Player vs Player (PvP) tournaments. Now you can make use of your team killing skills haha.

They’ve already had one tournament last week and there’s one planned for tonight. It might be too late to join now but I’m sure there will be future tournaments.

Make good use of your Magicka tips and pwn some people!

You can watch videos from the first Magicka PvP tournament here:

Magicka has sold 200,000 copies! DLC is planned.

Whoa! Good numbers for an indy game. Can’t wait for some DLC! Also an editor for custom content would be amazing.

The planned DLCs would include free and paid. Definitely exciting news.

Magicka Savegame Editor

Magicka Savegame Editor

Johnbot has released a saved game editor. It allows you to create a saved game file for all the levels and different weapons/staffs/magickas enabled. This is useful for the people that have only played online and have never hosted a server or played adventure mode. The way the saved system works those users have no saved games so they have to start from scratch if they decide to play adventure or host a game.

Spell Macro Tool – Magicka Spell Helper

Magicka Spell Helper

Steam Forums user nkhoang has released a controversial macro tool called the Magicka Spell Helper. Basically you can assign spells to a single key. This would help on those really complex spells. It would also make it real convienant for speed boosting/personal defense shielding.

I guess it boils down to a moral issue. Macro tools already exist and are probably already being used by some folks. Some people have hardware macro enabled mouses. Personally I like the challenge of trying to recall a spell from memory. Since the game is cooperative I don’t have too big an issue if someone decides to use a macro tool. I would have a problem if the person went around disrupting the game or if Paradox decides they are going to release a deathmatch mode.

Anyway, you can read more about Magicka Spell Helper at the following link:

Also please post your own thoughts on this utility.

Magicka Save Games; Chapters 1 – 12

Paradox put up a Zip file of saved games for everyone that’s having issues.

Hi everyone.

We know we’ve got issues with campaign saves being wiped, which understandably is very annoying.

So we’ve put together a little bundle with the save files for each chapter:

You can download it here:

Instructions on how to use:

NOTE: your existing save games will be wiped if you do this.

  1. Unzip the file
  2. Choose the chapter you want to load and copy that save file and put it in the folder ….Steam\steamapps\common\magicka\SaveData
  3. start the game and voila – the saved game should appear in the 3rd slot.

This is a temporary fix until we get the nasty campaign wiping bug out of the way. Ideally we’ll add a mission selector in the future
